I got the idea for this recipe from Martha Stewart Living years ago and I always wanted to try it. I mean these jars are absolutely adorable. The 7 layer dip is so super simple because I used all store bought ingredients. Martha makes her own refried beans, salsa, and guacamole but I bought premade to keep it super simple. Additionally, you can substitute some of the ingredients for different ones if you’re not a fan of a particular one.

Particularly what I love about this recipe is the individual servings. I’m not a germaphobe, but in this day and age, you kind of have to be. Also, my son started Kindergarten this year and the sickness that just won’t stop is so aggravating. Consequently, hygiene is of a big concern with me and these cute little jars solve that problem. There’s no risk of double dipping and there isn’t a shared serving spoon that everyone touches to scoop up a serving for their plate. Because you know sometimes people be licking their fingers and then still go around touching everything. So this solves both of those problems. And I’ll say it again, the lil jars are just so stinking cute!

Recipe

Layer each ingredient into each 4 ounce jar. Start with the refried beans, Then add shredded cheese. Next, add cilantro and top with salsa. Add black olives, and then the guacamole. Top with sour cream.

These jars can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. I would add everything but the sour cream and secure with the lid. Then add the sour cream when ready to serve simply because the lid will smash all of the sour cream.

Also another option is to heat the refried beans to make them easier to spread in the jars and then immediately top with the cheese to let it get a little melty. Then proceed with the rest of the ingredients.

Alternately, if you don’t have/ want mason jars, layer all the ingredients in a large bowl.
