Ingredients for black currant cooler
This recipe comes from Playboy’s Bartending Guide By Thomas Mario. I have so many drinks from this book it’s kinda crazy but it has so many interesting drinks I just can’t help myself. It was first published in the 1970’s. I wanted to make a large batch cocktail to serve at parties, picnics, or even tailgating. Sangria is a popular drink to make in a large batch like my Tropical sangria which is made in a pitcher but I was looking for something other than a sangria. Then I found this drink and was really curious about how it would taste. Because you can’t rely on the color. I mean it literally looks like muddy water!!??
The recipe calls for-
blended whiskey- has a milder flavor than a single malt
creme de cassis- which is a black currant liqueur
lemon juice- I like fresh squeezed
orange juice- I used bottled but you could also use fresh squeezed
club soda
Recipe
First, you need to combine the whiskey, creme de cassis, lemon juice and orange juice in a pitcher and chill in a refrigerator. Secondly, serve over ice in a glass. Lastly, top with club soda. Mint sprig optional.

Mint sprigs- optional, I just used them for the pictures to help take away from the muddy brown color
