Frozen blackberries-loaded with fiber and vitamin C, frozen avocado- considered a superfood, orange juice- vitamin C, milk, honey, and collagen powder-claims to help skin elasticity all combine to make this tasty blackberry collagen smoothie. If eating healthy foods is one of your new year’s resolutions, than this smoothie is for you!
I’ve made a lot of smoothies/protein shakes over the years. I even have it as it’s own category in the menu options here on the blog. But this is the first time that I used frozen avocado instead of a frozen banana in my smoothies/shakes to thicken the drink and make it creamier. I found a bag of frozen avocado chunks at Aldi so I decided to give it a try. One time I tried freezing avocados when there was a shortage but it didn’t go so well. Avocado is considered a superfood for all of the vitamins, nutrients and healthy fats it contains. And it actually did thicken up my smoothie just like a banana does.
I added collagen to this smoothie instead of protein powder because collagen is still all the rage right now. Plus collagen has protein in it so it’s a win win. If you’re looking for another collagen smoothie, check out my peanut butter banana collagen smoothie I made a few months ago.
Recipe
Blackberry collagen smoothie
(serves 1)
8 frozen blackberries
1/4 cup frozen avocado chunks
1 scoop unflavored collagen powder
1 cup milk ( I use original almond milk)
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 cup orange juice
Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
I used frozen blackberries and frozen avocado chunks. You could use fresh berries and avocado chunks and just add some ice to the blender.
Enjoy!!
Asher photobombing my shoot. She really needed to know what I was making and if it was anything she could taste. She was not impressed.
