Citrusy with some slightly floral notes, this blood orange elderflower cocktail reminds me of spring and just looks really pretty too.
I feel like the citrus this year was very hit or miss. Oranges in particular and mandarins/clementines. They were either really good or just really bad. It was very disappointing because when you buy a 3 or 5 pound bag and they turn out to be really bad, like what are you supposed to do with them?
I juiced the oranges but then got tired of juicing them because I don’t have an electric juicer.
I made dried orange slices out of the bad tasting oranges which turned out really well. You will see them as garnishes in future posts.
And of course I juiced these blood oranges and made a cocktail.
I feel like this cocktail would be really nice to serve at an Easter brunch. Like I said earlier, this drink reminds me of spring and it’s just so gosh darn pretty. Easter is a bit late this year so I’m not sure how the blood oranges would hold up until the middle of April or if you could even find them in the store. But If you can, you should definitely try it.
Blood orange elderflower cocktail
(serves 1)
1 ounce vodka
1 ounce elderflower liqueur
1/2 ounce lime juice (I prefer fresh squeezed)
1 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed blood orange juice
gingerale (enough top top off the drink)
Place vodka, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, and blood orange juice in a shaker with ice. Shake well. Pour into a rocks glass and top with gingerale and a blood orange slice.
Enjoy!
