The citrusy flavor of blood orange juice combined with the sweet notes of vanilla vodka plus lime juice and ginger beer make this blood orange moscow mule one delicious cocktail.
Blood oranges are just so pretty. Their taste is similar to a naval orange but can be more floral and tart. They tend to be sweeter and less acidic than a regular orange. And I just love the color! They pair well with vanilla, so I decided to use vanilla vodka. Then I used the traditional ingredients in a moscow mule of lime juice and ginger beer. The result is this very tasty mule.
When it comes to ginger beer, I prefer a mild one. Some ginger beers can be quite spicy and I feel like it takes over the taste of the drink especially if it’s a flavored cocktail like this one. I found that I prefer Stoli ginger beer to use in my flavored mules. It’s flavorful but mild and is made with pure cane sugar and no high fructose corn syrup.
If you’re into mules, whether they are moscow(vodka), mexican(tequila), kentucky(bourbon), or caribbean(rum), check out my “mules” catergory in my menu page. My favorite is the limoncello moscow mule- it tastes just like sprite. I also really like the strawberry rhubarb moscow mule because strawberry and rhubarb are 2 of my favorite combinations, especially in a pie. And I just realized looking at my mules that I never made a mexican mule. Which is kind of crazy because I absolutely love tequila. Hmmm, I’ll have to get on that one.
