This is a sweet and spicy margarita made with candied jalapenos. A traditional margarita with a sweet heat punch in the face. It is just so delicious!
So I know jalapeno or spicy margarita’s have been around for quite sometime now but I’ll be honest here and tell you that I’ve never had one before. Margarita’s are my favorite cocktail but something about a spicy jalapeno margarita just never appealed to me. And then I saw a jar of candied jalapenos in my refrigerator and I thought now these might make a really good margarita. And boy was I right.
For several years now, I make and can candied jalapenos. It’s actually not a very hard canning recipe. I’m not sure where my original recipe came from but this one is almost exactly the same. Candied jalapenos are sometimes called “cowboy candy.” A sweet, spicy heat that’s completely addictive.
I love to eat these on burgers. They’re also good to eat on top of cheese and crackers.
If you’re not into canning, or don’t want to try the regular version, this recipe is for “quick” candied jalapenos. It uses jarred pickled jalapenos. I’ve never tried it so I can’t say whether it tastes good or not. Or you can order these candied jalapenos. I’ve never tried them either but they have good reviews.
The recipe is super simple- tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Then I add about 4 of the candied jalapenos and a teaspoon of the syrup from the jar to the shaker. Strain it into a glass rimmed with tajin.
Candied jalapeno margarita
(serves 1)
2 oz tequila
1 oz triple sec
Juice from 1/2 a lime
3-4 candied jalapenos + 1 tsp syrup from jar
ice
tajin
Place fist 5 ingredients in a shaker and shake well. Strain into a glass rimmed with tajin.
Float a candied jalapeno on top.
I only partially rim the glass with tajin just because I like the way it looks.
If you’ve never tried a spicy margarita, this is the one to try!!
Enjoy!
