The holiday season is here, and what better way to celebrate than with a festive cocktail that combines the tartness of cranberries, the zing of lime, and the warmth of gin. Enter the cranberry gimlet, a bright and refreshing twist on the classic gimlet that’s perfect for any occasion.
This simple yet sophisticated cocktail is easy to make and will delight your taste buds with it’s balance of sweet, tart and botanical flavors. It offers the best of both worlds: the classic elegance of a gimlet and the seasonal charm of cranberries.
Ingredients for cranberry gimlet
Gin- provides a warmth and botanical base
Cranberry juice- unsweetened for a tart kick, or sweetened for a smooth flavor. I used unsweetened.
Lime juice- fresh squeezed please
Simple syrup- ties it all together, balancing the flavors with a hint of sweetness.
Cranberries and a lime wheel for garnish- optional
Variations to try:
Swap the gin– use vodka instead.
Add some bubbles– a splash of club soda or sparkling wine adds an effervescent touch.
Spice it up– infuse your simple syrup with cinnamon or cloves for a spiced version
Garnish it with a sprig of rosemary for an aromatic and festive touch
Recipe
Cranberry gimlet
(serves 1)
2 ounces gin
1 ounce cranberry juice
1/2 ounce lime juice (about the juice of 1/2 a lime)
1/2 ounce simple syrup (homemade* or store bought)
Cranberries and a lime wheel for garnish- optional
*For the homemade simple syrup- In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup water and half a cup of sugar to a boil, and stir until dissolved. Let cool before using. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
In a cocktail shaker, add gin, cranberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake well- about 15 seconds until the mixture is well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Add a few cranberries for a pop of color and a festive vibe and a lime wheel, optional.
To health, wealth, and happiness! Cheers!
