Say hello to your new drink of the day…..

Something new I thought I would try here on the blog. Mainly because I found the cool little chalkboard at Target a few months ago and I thought “oh wow! look it already says happy hour so I’ll just add the itsmy .com.” I’m so brilliant. HA HAHA.
Also, I thought it would be cool to take a classic or popular drink and feature it as “the drink of the day.”

The cuba libre is a classic cocktail dating back over 100 years. The inspiration for this drink came from a Cocktail Calendar I have hanging in my office. The month of August the drink was a cuba libre and I remembered that I had actually made one before at work bartending. There was only 1 other person in the whole bar besides the girl that ordered the drink, who knew what a cuba libre was. And both of them were former bartenders. In all honesty, you probably have had this drink before and didn’t even know it. It’s rum and cola with lime. So simple, I know. But it’s the ratio and measurements that make the drink. It’s not just a rum and cola with a slice of lime.

I’m going to get really annoying and tell you that the inspiration for the drink also came from the name of the drink and the fact that it’s my birthday week. I’m a Libra. It’s a cuba Libre. Get it??

Cuba Libre
2 oz light or dark rum (I used light)
1 oz fresh lime juice
cola- amount depending on how big your glass is.
Fill a glass with ice. Pour in rum then lime juice and top with cola. Give drink a slight stir and garnish with a lime wedge.

Get all fancy pants at your next get together and tell everyone your serving cuba libre’s. See how long before they figure out it’s just a rum and cola with lime. Hehe.
