Banana, pineapple, coconut, rum, coffee liqueur, and chocolate all combine to make this delicious frozen drink that just screams beach vacation!
This drink seriously reminds me of going to an all inclusive beach resort and looking at their cocktail menu for the first time and wanting to try every frozen drink on the menu. It’s like where do you start? This is definitely one of the ones I would choose first. And probably have again the next day. Or an hour later.
I tried to look up the origins of the name dirty monkey. Or where the cocktail originated from but the internet wasn’t very helpful. In fact, it gave me the urban dictionary definition of dirty monkey and I highly suggest you DO NOT look that up. I’m just guessing that it’s name comes from the fact that there is banana and banana liqueur in this drink and monkeys are associated with bananas and that the dirty part comes from the brown of the coffee liqueur and chocolate syrup that makes it look “dirty?” Yes? No? Maybe?
No matter where the name of the drink came from, it’s downright delicious!
Dirty monkey
(serves 1)
1/2 frozen banana
2 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz coconut milk
2 oz rum (other recipes call for aged rum but I didn’t have any and just used regular rum)
1/2 oz banana liqueur (I used 99 bananas)
1/2 oz coffee liqueur
Chocolate syrup
ice
Swirl chocolate syrup around inside of glass and set aside. In a blender add approximately 1/2 cup of ice, banana, pineapple juice, coconut milk, rum, banana liqueur and coffee liqueur. Blend until smooth. Pour into chocolate swirled glass.
Enjoy!
