After a summer of not working out and eating really badly, I’m ready to step up my A-game and get back into shape. But I’m also not ready to give up summer or to stop eating treats. So I made us the perfect solution to this dilemma….A key lime protein shake!
It’s perfectly tart and creamy without making you feel all puckered up as if you just shoved a whole lime in your mouth. And it’s healthy!!! Now, if you’ve had a bad day, and I’ve had a few of those lately, you could always say screw the gym and have a key lime pie martini like I made here for us last year. But if you’ve been killing it at the gym or running miles at the park (hint hint Trixie) then you deserve this key lime protein shake.
This is the perfect protein shake for me because I always have frozen bananas in my freezer and I always have limes because well you know, margaritas of course. I found some really good coconut milk as a special buy at my favorite store in all the land-Aldi. And that’s all you need plus protein powder or greek yogurt.
Key lime pie protein shake
1 cup coconut milk
2 1/2 TBL lime juice
1/4 tsp lime zest
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (or 1 cup vanilla greek yogurt)
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
It actually makes me want to go to the gym so I can come home and make this shake. It’s all about motivation right?
