This drink is for you Trixie!
I made a cranberry whiskey sour this past December and mentioned that whiskey sours got me and Trixie hammered on a cruise ship years ago. So for Trixie’s birthday this year, I got her all the makings of a whisky sour plus red wine to make this New York sour. I even made her a batch of simple syrup. The extra she can keep in the refrigerator for future use. Unless she makes several NY sours and uses it all. I even bought her a fresh lemon. I teased her with her present and told her she had to wait for the recipe “on the blog.” We’ll see how long it takes her to taste test this one out!
This cocktail is really quite pretty and I have to admit, really freaking good. I was actually a bit surprised at how really freaking good it tastes.
I feel like this is a very sophisticated take on a whiskey sour and Trixie is a very sophisticated drinker(think breaking her arm before her 50th bday cruise). Haha! Just teasing.
New York Sour
2 oz whiskey or bourbon
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
red wine
In a shaker with ice, combine first 3 ingredients. Shake well. Pour into a rocks glass. Take red wine and pour it over the back of a spoon into the glass so that it “floats” on top.
Cheers Trixie!
