This crazy named cocktail-the night of the iguana- is actually quite tasty and the ingredients are very simple.
I was perusing the book The Playboy Bartender’s Guide when I saw this drink. Undoubtably, I was intrigued. I mean, what the heck kind of name is night of the iguana? Since the ingredients were relatively simple, I decided to try it. Subsequently, I searched up the name and found out that it comes from a movie of the same name from 1964 which was based on a play of the same name by Tennessee Williams from 1961.The movie is set in Mexico which would explain the tequila in the drink. But other than that, I’m not sure why this drink is named after the movie.
Ingredients for night of the iguana
tequila
vodka
coffee liqueur
Rose’s lime juice-the original recipe calls for Rose’s lime juice but I didn’t have any so I actually used simple syrup and fresh lime juice.
Lime wedge- for garnish
Recipe
(serves 1)
1/2 ounce tequila
1/2 ounce vodka
half ounce coffee liqueur
1/2 lime, juiced
half ounce simple syrup
lime slice- for garnish, optional
In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine tequila, vodka, coffee liqueur, simple syrup, and lime juice. Shake well. Strain into a tall glass with ice. Garnish with a lime slice/wedge/wheel.
To health, wealth, and happiness! Cheers!
