A very refreshing take on a classic margarita, this non alcoholic margarita uses fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, agave, and coconut water. Rimmed with salt, this mocktail actually tastes like a margarita.
I actually wanted to call this drink a mock-a-rita but for search engine purposes, I went with non alcoholic margarita. Also, every time I say mock-a-rita, I think of the song “macarena” and can’t stop singing it. And I really don’t want that song stuck in my head.
I’m not going to lie either, I threw a shot of tequila in this drink after I taste tested it and it was delicious. So whether you imbibe or not, this is a really great mocktail/cocktail.
I adapted this recipe from Mocktail Party: 75 Plant Based, Non-Alcoholic Mocktail Recipes For Every Occasion by Kerry Benson and Diana Licalzi. The recipe was actually featured in a local magazine/publication.
The original recipe makes about 6 servings. My recipe serves 3. I also used fresh squeezed mandarin oranges instead of bottled orange juice.
Non- alcoholic margarita
(serves 3)
4 1/2 ounces (or 1/2 cup + 1 Tablespoon) fresh squeezed lime juice
3 Tablespoons fresh squeezed mandarin orange juice (or regular oranges)
1 1/2 Tablespoons agave (I used light blue agave that I found at Aldi)
10 1/2 ounces coconut water
Margarita or sea salt
Lime wedges and lime wheels to salt rim and garnish
To rim the glasses with salt- pour a thin layer of salt on a plate. Next, slide a lime wedge around the rim of the glass then dip and twist the glass in the salt.
For the margarita- Combine the lime juice, mandarin orange juice, agave, and coconut water in a small pitcher or measuring cup. Stir.
Fill a rimmed glass with ice. Pour in margarita mix and garnish with a lime wedge/wheel.
Enjoy!
