If you’re looking for a fun, fruity drink, this painted mermaid cocktail is for you. It combines 4 simple ingredients and you rim the glass with colorful sanding sugar for a sweet, delicious drink.
I originally saw this drink in my local newspaper many years ago. I cut out the article but it didn’t have a date on it. It says this painted mermaid drink came from a place called Painted Lady Tea house and restaurant in Norfolk, Virginia. Apparently the placed closed in 2009. I found the article recently and I was inspired to make it because of the “new” version of the Disney movie The Little Mermaid that’s coming out in theaters this month.
Ingredients for painted mermaid
There’s 4 ingredients for this cocktail plus the colored sanding sugar for the rim of the glass.
Vodka
Chambord
pineapple juice
grenadine
The combination of ingredients makes for a very fruity taste. Chambord is a black raspberry liqueur and grenadine has a cherry flavor.
Recipe
The recipe doesn’t get any simpler. Add all 4 ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. For the sugared rim, I had 3 different colors of sanding sugar. Red from Christmas and purple and gold from this king cake cocktail. Just place the sugars on a plate and mix the colors together. Use any kind of fruit wedge- lemon, lime, orange, etc- to rim the outside of the glass. Next, dip the rim of the glass in the sugar. Pour the contents of the shaker into the glass. The end.
