Crisp, refreshing, sweet, sour, and salty. This salted caramel apple whiskey sour has it all.
I originally was just going to make a caramel apple whiskey sour but I could not find regular caramel sauce or dip that didn’t contain all of these funky ingredients. And I was not about to make my own. Candy thermometers and I do not get along. Neither does deep frying and me. Which is why I love my airfryer. Something about getting it to a certain temperature and keeping it there without letting it burn and it all happens so fast and trying to control it just doesn’t work out for me. Am I talking food or a past relationship? HAHAHA. So anywho, The only caramel I could find that didn’t require any work or weird ingredients was a salted caramel sauce. So here we are.
Ingredients for salted caramel apple whiskey sour
Apple bourbon
lemon juice- I use fresh squeezed
maple syrup- the real stuff, not pancake syrup. Most whiskey sours use simple syrup but I wanted a little depth of flavor and also maple goes well with bourbon.
salted caramel sauce- you can totally use regular caramel because to be honest, the salted caramel didn’t really have a “salty” taste.
coarse salt- it’s like a double salt and it’s optional.
egg white- I don’t actually use an egg white when I make whiskey sours. It’s just a texture thing and I don’t feel like it’s necessary. It does, however, make the drink look pretty, gives it texture, and slightly tames the flavor. This recipe doesn’t have it but feel free to use one if you prefer.
Recipe
First place a small amount of caramel and salt on a plate. Dip the rim of the glass in the caramel and then the salt. Set aside. Secondly, In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine the apple bourbon, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Shake well. If you are using an egg white, shake the ingredients without ice first, then add the ice and shake well. This helps aerate the egg white to get that foamy texture. Lastly, pour into the glass rimmed with salted caramel.
To health, wealth, and happiness! Cheers!
