A delicious margarita with a berry burst of flavor and a spicy kick. This spicy blackberry margarita is sweet with a punch of heat.
I made this margarita because of the TV show Southern Charm. No other reason. Craig and Paige (my favorite tv couple) were riding along in their golf cart and went to a restaurant where they sat at the bar and ordered spicy blackberry margaritas. And right then and there I said to myself, “well now I have to make one of those for the blog.” Inspiration comes from everywhere. HA.
It was also the spicy margarita kick that has been going on for many years. I never tried one until this past summer when I made my candied jalapeno margarita which I did end up liking very much. Years ago, I made a blackberry margarita that was very tasty so I figured a spicy blackberry margarita would be just as good.
Well let me just tell you, about my first attempt making one. I was breathing fire. Like oh my goodness where is a gallon of milk my mouth is on fire. Like one of those tv shows when someone eats a ghost pepper and they can’t even talk because their mouth is on fire. That was me. I added 4 slices of a jalapeno, seeds and all, to a cocktail shaker for 1 drink. I have no idea what on earth I was thinking. Or should I just say I wasn’t thinking at all.
I of course tried it again after my mouth cooled off. I only used 1 jalapeno slice- no seeds- and it worked out perfect. Now if you happen to like extra spicy, you can use 2 jalapeno slices but I don’t recommend anymore than that.
With this recipe I actually double strained the ingredients. This blackberry margarita I made before I didn’t strain and just left the pieces of blackberries in the drink. This spicy blackberry margarita I definitely wanted to strain because to get the berry taste with a hint of the jalapeno I vigorously shake the cocktail shaker for about 30 seconds.
Spicy blackberry margarita
(serves 1)
2 oz tequila
1 oz triple sec
1/2 oz lime juice
1 oz agave
5 blackberries
1-2 jalapeno slices
Margarita salt for the rim
Rim a glass with a lime slice and dip in margarita salt. Set aside.
In a shaker with ice, combine all the ingredients (except for margarita salt) and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. I placed a fine mesh sieve over my glass and strained the cocktail shaker into it. Garnish with blackberries and a jalapeno slice optional.
Enjoy!
