Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, indulgence, and coming together with loved ones. Whether you’re hosting a festive feast or enjoying a quiet evening, a carefully crafted cocktail can elevate the experience. Enter the Thanksgiving special cocktail. It’s crisp with a subtle sweetness and a bright tanginess. A perfect blend of sophistication and seasonal warmth.
This cocktail came from The Everything Bartender’s Book by Jane Parker Resnick. I thought the drink sounded interesting even though the name didn’t sound interesting (it’s called Thanksgiving special, I added the cocktail to the end of it). And I was right. This cocktail is so crisp, refreshing, and complex. I did adjust the measurements slightly but kept the ingredients the same.
The Thanksgiving special cocktail pairs wonderfully with Thanksgiving staples like roasted turkey, buttery mashed potatoes, and savory stuffing. It’s also an excellent companion for desserts like pumpkin pie or spiced apple crumble.
Ingredients for Thanksgiving special cocktail
Gin- provides a botanical foundation
Apricot brandy- rich fruity notes that compliment the gin
Dry vermouth- adds a layer of herbal complexity
Lemon juice- fresh squeezed, brightens the cocktail with a refreshing tartness
Lemon twist wedge or wheel- for garnish (optional) for a citrusy aroma and a touch of elegance
Recipe
Thanksgiving special cocktail
(serves 1)
1.5 ounces gin
1 ounce apricot brandy
Juice of 1/2 a lemon (about 1/2 oz)
1 ounce dry vermouth
Lemon twist, wedge, or wheel- for garnish (optional)
In a cocktail shaker with ice, add gin, apricot brandy, lemon juice, and dry vermouth. Shake well. Strain into a glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge, optional.
You could also serve this cocktail “martini” style. First by chilling your martini glass in the freezer or filling it with ice water as you prepare the cocktail. Discard the ice water from your glass right before you strain the contents of the shaker to keep it nice and chilled.
To health, wealth, and happiness! Cheers! And Happy Thanksgiving!
