Nutty, chocolatey, and creamy, this amaretto alexander could be my new favorite drink. It’s made with 3 simple ingredients and garnished with slivered almonds. Conversely, making this a drink and a snack all in one!
Interestingly, there are a few “alexander” cocktails out there such as the popular brandy alexander. Also, there’s a gin alexander and this gin coffee alexander that I made. Then I saw a recipe for this amaretto alexander and I couldn’t wait to try it. But It got me wondering, who is Alexander? And why are all these drinks called “something” alexander.
Basically, it turns out that the alexander cocktails were invented by a Troy Alexander. A bartender in a New York City restaurant in the early 20th century. It’s said to have been created as an advertising campaign for a railroad company. Subsequently, they needed and “all white” cocktail to match the all white dress of the girl in the ad. They used gin, creme de cocoa, and cream and the “alexander” was born. Particularly, the “alexander” cocktail is considered a dessert cocktail and consists of a liquor, creme de cocoa, and cream.
Ingredients for amaretto alexander
Amaretto- one of my favorite liqueurs made of almonds and apricot pits which have an almond flavor
creme de cocoa- a chocolate flavored liqueur
cream- I used half and half. You can use any milk or cream of your choice
slivered almonds- for garnish, optional. I like to nibble on them as a snack with my cocktail.
Recipe
Amaretto alexander
(serves 1)
2 ounces amaretto
1 1/2 ounces creme de cocoa
1 ounce half and half- or any milk/cream of choice
