It’s Friday. Let’s drink.
I made us this cool cocktail because it reminded me of fall and of the holidays. I’m not sure why. Maybe just because of the cranberry… But it kinda makes me want to curl up on the couch with a super soft fuzzy blanket and sip on this drink. Which I could do tonight because the weather is no longer 75 degrees in November. Much more seasonal this weekend. Speaking of seasonal, cranberries are in season right now. Except I just used cranberry juice which is always in season but it’s my excuse anyway. I also used a “real” cranberry juice. Like the 100% all cranberries hardly any sugar juice that if you try to drink straight up you make a horrible puckered face. Ya know what I mean? But it pairs really well with the bourbon.
Now, as for the fig jam, it compliments the bourbon as well. And I know jam cocktails were all the rage a few years ago, but just like this blog, I’m always late to the party. If we’re really being honest here, I’m late for everything. But anyway, pick up some fig jam and you can make double duty out of it by making a bomb ass cheese board and have some fig jam to put on top of your cheese and crackers and then put some fig jam into your cocktail. Bonus points!
The key to this cocktail, as is for any “jam” cocktail, is to shake the shit out of your shaker. Say that 5 time real fast. For real though, I had to grab a towel to hold the shaker with because it gets very, very cold but you have to shake it for a long time in order to break up the jam and mix it in with the drink. Just put on a good song and dance around and shake, shake, shake your cocktail.
Bourbon cranberry fig jam cocktail
2 oz bourbon
1 oz cranberry juice
1 Tbl fig jam
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until your arm almost falls off. Pour into a cocktail glass. I do no strain it into a glass because some of the jam coats the ice cubes and helps incorporate it all into the drink.
Now curl up under a blanket, sip on your cocktail, and binge watch This Is Us. Seriously.
