Peanut butter- as in peanut butter whiskey , banana( liquor), and bacon- as in bacon jam- all combine to form this crazy cocktail that is as delicious as the famous sandwich made popular by the King himself, Elvis Pressley.
The inspiration for this drink was actually several different reasons. Jam cocktails, peanut butter whiskey, and the new Elvis movie that came out this summer and is now streaming on HBO. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but my sister did and really liked it.
Jam cocktails and jam+seltzer drinks were having a moment again on TikTok recently. It inspired this rum fig jam cocktail I made last month. It also got me thinking about a bacon jam recipe I saw a few years ago and thought I saved but couldn’t for the life of me find anywhere. Then I had a craving for peanut butter whiskey and thought besides jelly and chocolate, what else goes better with peanut butter? Why bananas, of course.
So put that whole thought process together along with the recent Elvis movie and that’s how I came up with this crazy cocktail that actually tastes really good!
I also tried it with a little bit of club soda to make it more into a cocktail instead of a sipping drink.
Did you know they actually have a whiskey out right now called Elvis whiskey? I saw it at the store but didn’t buy it because it’s not peanut butter flavored.
Elvis sandwich cocktail
(serves 1)
1 1/2 ounces peanut butter whiskey
1/2 ounce banana liquor
1 Tablespoon bacon jam
club soda, optional (about 2 ounces)
banana slice and bacon slice, optional
In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine peanut butter whiskey, banana liquor, and bacon jam. Shake really, really well. Like for as long as you can. Double strain into a glass. Garnish with a small bacon slice and banana slice optional. Club soda, optional.
Bacon jam
5 slices bacon
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 Tablespoon water
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside. Drain grease from pan reserving 1 Tablespoon of grease. Add chopped onion to pan with grease and saute until tender and add balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and water. Simmer until mixture is reduced to a light syrupy texture. Chop the bacon and add to the pan. Stir to combine and remove from heat. Let cool and store in an air tight container in the refrigerator. Leftover bacon jam also taste great on burgers.
