homemade amaretto

I made some homemade amaretto over the weekend. I found myself using a lot of amaretto and always seemed to be running out. It’s used in a lot of my drink recipes and I was on a kick for a minute drinking amaretto on ice with fresh squeezed orange juice.  So I don’t always buy a top shelf amaretto especially when I combine it with other liquors.  Last year I tried homemade irish cream from recipes on Pinterest and was curious about a homemade Amaretto. Holy freaking easy. And it’s made with vodka which is always on stock in my liquor cabinet. The only item I didn’t have on hand was almond extract which you can find virtually any where.

It’s basically like making a simple syrup which is just sugar and water that you heat over medium on the stove.

Let the mixture cool, and add the vodka and extracts.

Homemade amaretto
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups vodka
2 Tbl almond extract
2 tsp vanilla extract
Combine water and both sugars and heat over medium on stove until sugars are dissolved, stirring frequently. Let mixture cool and then add vodka and extracts. Pour into a container.

I have a really good drink coming soon that I used my homemade amaretto in that I can’t wait to share with you!
