This delicious iced golden milk is creamy with an earthy and comforting taste from all of the spices in it, some of which are anti- inflammatory.
Golden milk is typically served hot. It’s also usually called a golden milk latte. But when I researched it on the internet, a lot of people say that for it to be a latte, it has to have coffee in it. But a lot of the recipes for golden milk latte’s do not have coffee in them. So I wasn’t quite sure how to name this drink. So since this iced golden milk does not contain coffee, I decided to leave out the latte in the name. I also decided to make this one iced because it’s still summer here and very hot and I wanted to try this variation of the drink.
The first time I tasted a golden milk latte was with my sister and my niece. We went to this cute hip coffee shop after we spent the day at a local museum. My son was only 5 months old and it has been a particularly extremely cold winter so we had been trapped in the house for about 2 months straight. We had a break in the weather and my sister recommended the museum because I could push Jackson around in his stroller. It was such a pleasant afternoon. Jackson took a little nap and then my sister read him a book in the little library the museum has. Then we went to the coffee shop for a while and that’s where I had my first golden milk latte. It was served hot. It was so comforting and tasty and not like anything I had ever drank before. I’m not sure if it contained coffee or not. I don’t think it did because my sister doesn’t drink coffee and this is the drink she always orders there.
Iced golden milk
(serves 2)
2 cups almond milk (I use original flavor-you can use any type of milk)
1 tsp tumeric
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp ginger
Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and place over medium low heat. Let it come to a simmer for about 5-8 minutes. (At this point you could serve it hot). Let cool and place in the refrigerator for about an hour. I simmered the ingredients to let them meld together but to be honest, you could probably put all of the ingredients in a container with a lid and shake it really well.
Fill a glass with ice, pour over top and serve.
Enjoy!
