The sidecar is a tart, classic cocktail said to have originated during prohibition. Traditionally cognac is used along with Cointreau and lemon juice. Brandy can also be substituted for the Cognac.
I originally posted this drink in May of 2015. It’s titled “old cars and side cars” and can be found here. Subsequently, I was going to replace the whole post but decided to leave it because it shows how far I’ve come in blogging. For example, my photography skills- 2 of the pictures on the old post are sideways. Likewise, I still wanted to keep some of the text and update it.
*(Excerpt from old post) In the 2+ years my boyfriend and I have been dating, he has owned over 9 vehicles. This does not include a motorcycle or dirt bike but does include a tow truck, a few vehicles that no longer run, and my favorite blue Silverado that he “sold” to his buddy despite my begging and pleading. He hasn’t owned all of these vehicles at one time and there seems to be a constant rotation. I got rid of my beloved dodge stratus after 11 years and I plan on keeping my current ride until it’s not possible to drive safely. My boyfriend’s latest purchase is this 1950 chevy deluxe.
****UPDATE*****
We still have this car. Also, we have been together for 11+ years now and the car count is up to 18!!!
So in the spirit of his purchase of this 1950 Chevy Deluxe (which is still taking up valuable space in our garage), I thought it deserved a 1950’s happy hour. Popular drinks in the 1950’s were classics like martini’s, gimlet’s, Tom Collins, seabreeze, sidecar’s and Singapore sling’s. I decided on the sidecar for this occasion.
